About This Lesson
A step-by-step cow eye dissection that students follow on a free 3D model of the eye: the cornea, sclera and optic nerve, the muscles that move the eye, cutting the eye in two, the iris, pupil and lens, and the retina and optic disc. Each step lights its structures on the 3D eye, and the guide explains how a cow eye differs from a human eye (the tapetum lucidum, the oval pupil, the retractor bulbi). Use it as a pre-lab, a make-up lab, or an alternative assignment for a student who chooses not to dissect; it ends with a short quiz. The attached PDF is a printable student handout of the steps, with space to record what they find.
