About This Lesson
A step-by-step sheep brain dissection that students follow on a free 3D model of the brain: the coverings, the cerebrum and cerebellum, the underside (optic chiasm, pituitary, mamillary body, pons, medulla), the midsagittal cut, the corpus callosum and ventricles, the thalamus, hypothalamus and colliculi, and the cerebellum in section. Each step lights its structures on the 3D brain, and the guide explains how a sheep brain differs from a human brain. Use it as a pre-lab, a make-up lab, or an alternative assignment for a student who chooses not to dissect; it ends with a short quiz. The attached PDF is a printable student handout of the steps, with space to record what they find.
